In 2018, approx. X tons of semi-milled or wholly milled (bleached) rice were exported from Romania; rising by X% against the previous year. Overall, milled rice exports continue to indicate strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012 with an increase of X% against the previous year. In that year, milled rice exports reached their peak of X tons. From 2013 to 2018, the growth of milled rice exports failed to regain its momentum.

Italy (X tons), Moldova (X tons) and Bulgaria (X tons) were the main destinations of milled rice exports from Romania, together comprising X% of total exports. The Czech Republic, Turkey, Armenia and Slovakia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of exports, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Armenia, while exports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Italy ($X) remains the key foreign market for milled rice exports from Romania, comprising X% of total milled rice exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Moldova ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Italy amounted to +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Moldova (+X% per year) and the Czech Republic (+X% per year).

In 2018, the average milled rice export price amounted to $X per ton, jumping by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price indicated a buoyant increase from 2007 to 2018: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2018 figures, milled rice export price increased by +X% against 2014 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 an increase of X% year-to-year. The export price peaked in 2018 and is expected to retain its growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2018, the imports of semi-milled or wholly milled (bleached) rice into Romania amounted to X tons, picking up by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, milled rice imports continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2011 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, milled rice imports reached their maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2018, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, milled rice imports stood at $X in 2018. Overall, milled rice imports continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, milled rice imports attained their peak figure at $X in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2018, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2018, Bulgaria (X tons) constituted the largest milled rice supplier to Romania, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, milled rice imports from Bulgaria exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X tons), eightfold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Hungary (X tons), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Bulgaria amounted to +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+X% per year) and Hungary (+X% per year).

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008 when the average import price increased by X% against the previous year. In that year, the average import prices for semi-milled or wholly milled (bleached) rice attained their peak level of $X per ton. From 2009 to 2018, the growth in terms of the average import prices for semi-milled or wholly milled (bleached) rice remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2018, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while the price for Cambodia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
