In 2021, ski-suit exports from Romania dropped rapidly to X units, shrinking by -52.1% against the year before. Overall, exports, however, posted a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 362% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X units in 2020, and then reduced sharply in the following year.

In value terms, ski-suit exports reduced markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 141% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2020, and then contracted notably in the following year.

Italy (X units) was the main destination for ski-suit exports from Romania, with a 51% share of total exports. Moreover, ski-suit exports to Italy exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Poland (X units), fivefold. Bulgaria (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Italy amounted to +19.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+26.8% per year) and Bulgaria (+24.0% per year).

In value terms, Italy ($X) remains the key foreign market for ski-suits (excluding of knitted or crocheted textiles) exports from Romania, comprising 66% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bulgaria ($X), with a 7.6% share of total exports. It was followed by the United States, with a 5.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Italy stood at +9.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bulgaria (+19.9% per year) and the United States (+140.5% per year).

The average ski-suit export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, waning by -8.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 104% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Poland ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2021, approx. X units of ski-suits (excluding of knitted or crocheted textiles) were imported into Romania; with an increase of 7.6% compared with the year before. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, ski-suit imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports posted a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 85%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

Poland (X units), Austria (X units) and China (X units) were the main suppliers of ski-suit imports to Romania, with a combined 53% share of total imports. Italy, Tunisia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, France and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 36%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Hungary (with a CAGR of +82.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Austria ($X), Poland ($X) and Italy ($X) were the largest ski-suit suppliers to Romania, with a combined 52% share of total imports. These countries were followed by China, the Czech Republic, Tunisia, Hungary, France and the Netherlands, which together accounted for a further 33%.

In terms of the main suppliers, Hungary, with a CAGR of +90.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average ski-suit import price amounted to $X per unit, jumping by 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a prominent increase. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per unit), while the price for China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
