The market value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +6.0% against 2014 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, soap in different forms imports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +77.2% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Poland (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main suppliers of soap in different forms imports to Romania, with a combined 52% share of total imports. Turkey, France, Spain, Hungary, Bulgaria, Austria, the Czech Republic and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 42%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Spain (with a CAGR of +30.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the price for Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
