From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, spinach exports surged to $X in 2022. In general, exports enjoyed a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 113% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Moldova (X tons), the UK (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main destinations of spinach exports from Romania, with a combined 81% share of total exports.

In 2022, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest spinach supplier to Romania, with a 56% share of total imports. Moreover, spinach imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Hungary (X tons), with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany totaled +102.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+7.6% per year) and Hungary (+15.4% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of spinach to Romania, comprising 69% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hungary ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with a 7.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Germany totaled +95.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hungary (+19.1% per year) and Italy (-0.9% per year).

In 2022, the average spinach import price amounted to $X per ton, waning by -5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 43%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
