Tufted Carpet Market Size in Romania

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in the Romanian tufted carpet market, when its value decreased by -45.4% to $X. In general, consumption, however, enjoyed measured growth. Tufted carpet consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

In 2022, approx. X square meters of tufted carpets and other tufted textile floor coverings were exported from Romania; rising by 7.4% against the year before. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 101%. The exports peaked at X square meters in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, tufted carpet exports expanded slightly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 73% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Croatia (X square meters), Bulgaria (X square meters) and Moldova (X square meters) were the main destinations of tufted carpet exports from Romania, with a combined 52% share of total exports. Hungary, Slovenia, Turkey, Greece, Georgia, Poland and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 39%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Georgia (with a CAGR of +293.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Croatia ($X), Bulgaria ($X) and Hungary ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for tufted carpet exported from Romania worldwide, together accounting for 53% of total exports. Slovenia, Greece, Georgia, Moldova, Turkey, Poland and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 35%.

Among the main countries of destination, Georgia, with a CAGR of +213.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average tufted carpet export price amounted to $X per square meter, falling by -5% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, tufted carpet export price decreased by -16.0% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average export price increased by 50%. The export price peaked at $X per square meter in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per square meter), while the average price for exports to Germany ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Denmark (+12.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

After two years of growth, purchases abroad of tufted carpets and other tufted textile floor coverings decreased by -37.8% to X square meters in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a temperate increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X square meters in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, tufted carpet imports reduced dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a moderate increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined sharply in the following year.

China (X square meters), the Netherlands (X square meters) and Turkey (X square meters) were the main suppliers of tufted carpet imports to Romania, together accounting for 44% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by China (with a CAGR of +32.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest tufted carpet suppliers to Romania were China ($X), Turkey ($X) and Belgium ($X), with a combined 41% share of total imports.

China, with a CAGR of +31.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average tufted carpet import price amounted to $X per square meter, with a decrease of -13.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a pronounced decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 16% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per square meter in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per square meter), while the price for the Netherlands ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
