The UK (X tons) was the main destination for turkey meat exports from Romania, with a 43% share of total exports. Moreover, turkey meat exports to the UK exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Bulgaria (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Italy (X tons), with a 9.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the UK amounted to +166.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bulgaria (+23.4% per year) and Italy (+96.7% per year).
In value terms, the UK ($X) remains the key foreign market for turkey meat exports from Romania, comprising 45% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Italy ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by Moldova, with a 9.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to the UK stood at +189.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Italy (+111.4% per year) and Moldova (+29.4% per year).

In 2022, supplies from abroad of turkey meat decreased by -6.8% to X tons for the first time since 2014, thus ending a seven-year rising trend. Overall, total imports indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 34%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, turkey meat imports expanded significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 29%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
Hungary (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main suppliers of turkey meat imports to Romania, together comprising 85% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +17.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest turkey meat suppliers to Romania were the Netherlands ($X), Poland ($X) and Hungary ($X), together accounting for 84% of total imports.
