The exports peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, passenger car tyre exports soared to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Germany (X units) was the main destination for passenger car tyre exports from Romania, accounting for a 24% share of total exports. Moreover, passenger car tyre exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, France (X units), twofold. The average passenger car tyre export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, picking up by 3.6% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Imports into Romania
In 2021, imports of tyres for motor cars into Romania rose sharply to X units, surging by 14% compared with 2020 figures. Over the period under review, imports saw a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 38% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, passenger car tyre imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 47%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
Poland (X units), China (X units) and Hungary (X units) were the main suppliers of passenger car tyre imports to Romania, together comprising 54% of total imports. Indonesia, Germany, Serbia, Italy, France, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Russia and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 37%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Indonesia (with a CAGR of +107.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Poland ($X) constituted the largest supplier of tyres for motor cars to Romania, comprising 27% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hungary ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Poland amounted to +9.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hungary (+18.7% per year) and China (+25.7% per year).

The average passenger car tyre import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, with an increase of 3.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 19%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per unit), while the price for Russia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
