In 2022, the Romanian non-alloy steel u-section market decreased by -32.1% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The exports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, non-alloy steel u-section exports stood at $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 42% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Italy (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) were the main destinations of non-alloy steel u-section exports from Romania, with a combined 52% share of total exports. Serbia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Czech Republic, Germany and Austria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 37%.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 67%. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
