The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 48%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, uncooked pasta exports fell to $X in 2021. Overall, total exports indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +34.6% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 55% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then declined in the following year.

Moldova (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main destinations of uncooked pasta exports from Romania, together comprising 43% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Poland (with a CAGR of +53.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X), Moldova ($X) and the United States ($X) constituted the largest markets for uncooked pasta exported from Romania worldwide, with a combined 40% share of total exports. There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Moldova ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, uncooked pasta imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Italy (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of uncooked pasta to Romania, with a 51% share of total imports. Moreover, uncooked pasta imports from Italy exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Hungary (X tons), twofold.
