In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in the Romanian unvulcanised rubber market, when its value increased by 17% to $X. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a deep slump. Unvulcanised rubber consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, overseas shipments of unvulcanised rubber increased by 14% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports enjoyed a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 76% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, unvulcanised rubber exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports enjoyed temperate growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 75% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Poland (X tons) was the main destination for unvulcanised rubber exports from Romania, accounting for a 57% share of total exports. Moreover, unvulcanised rubber exports to Poland exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Italy (X tons), twofold. Germany (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 8.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Poland amounted to +119.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Italy (+16.5% per year) and Germany (-1.1% per year).
In value terms, Poland ($X), Italy ($X) and Germany ($X) were the largest markets for unvulcanised rubber exported from Romania worldwide, together accounting for 87% of total exports.
Among the main countries of destination, Poland, with a CAGR of +103.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average unvulcanised rubber export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 2.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average export price increased by 13% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (-1.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Romania
In 2021, the amount of unvulcanised rubber imported into Romania surged to X tons, growing by 19% on the previous year's figure. Overall, total imports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -6.0% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country
Poland (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main suppliers of unvulcanised rubber imports to Romania, together comprising 72% of total imports. These countries were followed by France, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, which together accounted for a further 25%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Slovakia (with a CAGR of +23.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest unvulcanised rubber suppliers to Romania were Poland ($X), Germany ($X) and Italy ($X), together accounting for 72% of total imports. France, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 23%.
Slovakia, with a CAGR of +16.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
