Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then declined significantly in the following year.
In value terms, glass fibre fabrics exports declined remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 165%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then fell sharply in the following year.
Exports by Country
Italy (X tons) was the main destination for glass fibre fabrics exports from Romania, accounting for a 44% share of total exports. Moreover, glass fibre fabrics exports to Italy exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Slovakia (X tons), fourfold. Croatia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 8.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Italy totaled +30.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Slovakia (+200.2% per year) and Croatia (+51.1% per year).
In value terms, Italy ($X) remains the key foreign market for glass fibre fabrics exports from Romania, comprising 42% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Slovakia ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by France, with a 9.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Italy amounted to +18.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Slovakia (+151.5% per year) and France (-4.8% per year).

The average glass fibre fabrics export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, remaining stable against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a abrupt slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 9.4%. Imports into Romania
In 2022, overseas purchases of glass fibre fabrics decreased by -16.1% to X tons for the first time since 2014, thus ending a seven-year rising trend. Overall, total imports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, glass fibre fabrics imports shrank notably to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Moldova (X tons) constituted the largest glass fibre fabrics supplier to Romania, with a 49% share of total imports. Moreover, glass fibre fabrics imports from Moldova exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Serbia (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by the Czech Republic (X tons), with a 7.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Moldova stood at +57.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Serbia (+143.2% per year) and the Czech Republic (+9.6% per year).
In value terms, Moldova ($X) constituted the largest supplier of glass fibre fabrics to Romania, comprising 46% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Serbia ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 7.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Moldova totaled +59.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Serbia (+136.3% per year) and the Czech Republic (+6.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average glass fibre fabrics import price amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -7.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 14%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then shrank in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+3.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
