In value terms, woolen fabric imports declined modestly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a deep contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 11% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Italy (X square meters) constituted the largest woolen fabric supplier to Romania, accounting for a 75% share of total imports. Moreover, woolen fabric imports from Italy exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X square meters), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by the Czech Republic (X square meters), with a 3.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Italy amounted to -4.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-22.6% per year) and the Czech Republic (-9.2% per year).

In value terms, Italy ($X) constituted the largest supplier of woven woolen fabrics to Romania, comprising 77% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 6.1% share of total imports. It was followed by France, with a 3.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Italy totaled -1.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-20.0% per year) and France (-12.4% per year).

In 2021, the average woolen fabric import price amounted to $X per square meter, increasing by 7.6% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.5%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per square meter), while the price for China ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
