The Russian air conditioning machine market surged to $X in 2021, rising by 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a slight setback. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, air conditioning machine exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, total exports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +127.0% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 60% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Belarus (X units), Ukraine (X units) and Kazakhstan (X units) were the main destinations of air conditioning machine exports from Russia, together accounting for 83% of total exports. These countries were followed by Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and Belgium, which together accounted for a further 14%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Belgium (with a CAGR of +97.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for air conditioning machine exported from Russia were Belarus ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Ukraine ($X), with a combined 70% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Belgium and Azerbaijan, which together accounted for a further 13%.

Belgium, with a CAGR of +74.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average air conditioning machine export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, surging by 3.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 42% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Azerbaijan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belarus (-2.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into the Russian Federation

In 2021, the amount of air conditioning machines imported into Russia surged to X units, picking up by 29% on the year before. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 51% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, air conditioning machine imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a perceptible shrinkage. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, China (X units) constituted the largest air conditioning machine supplier to Russia, with a 85% share of total imports. Moreover, air conditioning machine imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Czech Republic (X units), more than tenfold. Thailand (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 1.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled +2.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Czech Republic (-0.1% per year) and Thailand (-3.6% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of air conditioning machine to Russia, comprising 65% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Italy ($X), with a 5.8% share of total imports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 5.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled +1.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (-6.5% per year) and the Czech Republic (-6.1% per year).

In 2021, the average air conditioning machine import price amounted to $X per unit, shrinking by -2.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 22%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2021, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
