Aircraft Market Size in the Russian Federation

In 2022, after four years of decline, there was growth in the Russian aircraft market, when its value increased by 2.3% to $X. In general, consumption continues to indicate slight growth. Kazakhstan (X units) was the main destination for aircraft exports from Russia, with a 20% share of total exports. Moreover, aircraft exports to Kazakhstan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, India (X units), threefold. South Africa (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.7% share.

From 2014 to 2019, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Kazakhstan stood at -22.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: India (0.0% per year) and South Africa (0.0% per year).

In value terms, Tajikistan ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for airplanes and other aircraft exports from Russia, comprising 82% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 9.4% share of total exports. It was followed by India, with a 2.2% share.

From 2014 to 2019, the average annual growth rate of value to Tajikistan was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kazakhstan (-35.7% per year) and India (-48.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2019, the average aircraft export price amounted to $X per unit, rising by 50% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average export price increased by 55%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2019, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Overall, imports continue to indicate a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 79% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2019, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, aircraft imports plummeted to $X in 2019. In general, imports saw a dramatic setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 68%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2019, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Israel (X units), China (X units) and the Netherlands (X units) were the main suppliers of aircraft imports to Russia, together accounting for 48% of total imports. Australia, South Africa, Romania, Latvia, Canada, Germany, Switzerland and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 32%.

From 2013 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Australia (with a CAGR of +100.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest aircraft suppliers to Russia were Israel ($X), China ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), with a combined 52% share of total imports. Romania, South Africa, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Canada, Australia and Latvia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 24%.

Australia, with a CAGR of +695.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average aircraft import price stood at $X per unit in 2019, which is down by -10.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price faced a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 a decrease of -6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2019, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2019, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per unit), while the price for Latvia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2013 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Australia (+297.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
