The Russian market for anise, badian, fennel and coriander reduced to $X in 2022, which is down by -5.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, posted a moderate expansion. Anise, badian, fennel and coriander production peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.
The average yield of anise, badian, fennel and coriander in Russia reduced to X tons per ha in 2022, remaining constant against the previous year. In general, the yield faced a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the yield increased by 95%. As a result, the yield reached the peak level of X tons per ha. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the average anise, badian, fennel and coriander yield remained at a lower figure. In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of anise, badian, fennel and coriander, when their volume decreased by -15.6% to X tons. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 364%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, anise, badian, fennel and coriander exports fell remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 375%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

India (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and Nepal (X tons) were the main destinations of anise, badian, fennel and coriander exports from Russia, together accounting for 70% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Nepal (with a CAGR of +108.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for anise, badian, fennel and coriander exported from Russia were Indonesia ($X), India ($X) and Nepal ($X), with a combined 72% share of total exports.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Nepal, with a CAGR of +104.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for anise, badian, fennel and coriander amounted to $X per ton, falling by -3.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a mild shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average export price increased by 30% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Nepal ($X per ton) and Indonesia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Sri Lanka ($X per ton) and the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Egypt (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Imports of Anise, Badian, Fennel And Coriander
Imports into the Russian Federation
In 2022, overseas purchases of anise, badian, fennel and coriander decreased by -7% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year rising trend. In general, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +11.7% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 46%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, anise, badian, fennel and coriander imports declined to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 47% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, India (X tons) constituted the largest anise, badian, fennel and coriander supplier to Russia, with a 45% share of total imports. Moreover, anise, badian, fennel and coriander imports from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Finland (X tons), threefold. Egypt (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from India totaled +16.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Finland (+10.3% per year) and Egypt (+4.9% per year).
In value terms, India ($X), Vietnam ($X) and North Macedonia ($X) appeared to be the largest anise, badian, fennel and coriander suppliers to Russia, together accounting for 70% of total imports.
In terms of the main suppliers, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +34.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average import price for anise, badian, fennel and coriander stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -7.1% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 17%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then declined in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was North Macedonia ($X per ton), while the price for Finland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+6.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
