Black Printing Ink Market Size in the Russian Federation

The Russian black printing ink market fell to $X in 2022, which is down by -7.1% against the previous year. Belarus (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) were the main destinations of black printing ink exports from Russia, with a combined 95% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Belarus (with a CAGR of +26.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for black printing ink exported from Russia were Belarus ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Ukraine ($X), with a combined 96% share of total exports.

Belarus, with a CAGR of +26.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average black printing ink export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Ukraine ($X per ton) and Belarus ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Armenia ($X per ton) and Kazakhstan ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Armenia (+2.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into the Russian Federation

Black printing ink imports into Russia declined to X tons in 2022, waning by -6% compared with the year before. Overall, imports recorded a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, black printing ink imports declined to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Turkey (X tons) constituted the largest black printing ink supplier to Russia, accounting for a 25% share of total imports. Moreover, black printing ink imports from Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by South Korea (X tons), with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Turkey amounted to +33.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-15.6% per year) and South Korea (+2.2% per year).

In value terms, Turkey ($X) constituted the largest supplier of black printing ink to Russia, comprising 25% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Korea ($X), with an 8.2% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 7.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Turkey totaled +33.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Korea (-1.4% per year) and Germany (-16.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average black printing ink import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -2.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a mild downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average import price increased by 9.3%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for France ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
