Book Cover Market Size in the Russian Federation

The Russian book cover market dropped slightly to $X in 2022, declining by -1.9% against the previous year. Overall, consumption showed a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the market value increased by 5.4%. Book cover consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, book cover production shrank slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production showed a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the production volume increased by 1.6%. Book cover production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports from the Russian Federation

In 2022, the amount of blotting pads and book covers exported from Russia fell to X tons, with a decrease of -5.4% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, exports, however, saw buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 94%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, book cover exports declined to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 35%. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

Exports by Country

Belarus (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) were the main destinations of book cover exports from Russia, together comprising 84% of total exports. Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Poland and Latvia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 13%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +124.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for book cover exported from Russia were Belarus ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Ukraine ($X), together accounting for 83% of total exports. Kyrgyzstan, Poland, Latvia and Armenia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 15%.

Among the main countries of destination, Latvia, with a CAGR of +70.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average book cover export price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -2.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 62% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Armenia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kyrgyzstan (+3.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into the Russian Federation

For the third consecutive year, Russia recorded growth in purchases abroad of blotting pads and book covers, which increased by 3.9% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +39.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 50% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, book cover imports contracted to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a slight curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 36%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of book cover to Russia, with a 86% share of total imports. Moreover, book cover imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belarus (X tons), eightfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +15.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (+38.8% per year) and Italy (-17.6% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of blotting pads and book covers to Russia, comprising 86% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 4% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China totaled +16.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (+34.3% per year) and Italy (-24.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average book cover import price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -7.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 89%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
