Plastic Bottle Market Size in the Russian Federation
The Russian plastic bottle market surged to $X in 2022, picking up by 77% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a precipitous slump. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of carboys, bottles and similar articles of plastics, when their volume decreased by -8.5% to X tons. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the period from 2020 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 21%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, plastic bottle exports fell rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated strong growth from 2020 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +10.7% over the last two-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +22.6% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 45% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

Belarus (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) were the main destinations of plastic bottle exports from Russia, with a combined 91% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Kyrgyzstan, which accounted for a further 2.6%.
From 2020 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Kyrgyzstan (with a CAGR of +14.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for plastic bottle exported from Russia were Belarus ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Ukraine ($X), with a combined 89% share of total exports.
Belarus, with a CAGR of +15.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average plastic bottle export price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -7.7% against the previous year. Over the last two-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +5.1%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average export price increased by 20%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then shrank in the following year.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Ukraine ($X per ton) and Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Belarus ($X per ton) and Kazakhstan ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2020 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belarus (+10.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Russian Federation
In 2022, the amount of carboys, bottles and similar articles of plastics imported into Russia dropped to X tons, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. In general, imports saw a pronounced shrinkage. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, plastic bottle imports fell to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% from 2020 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Belarus (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of plastic bottle to Russia, with a 55% share of total imports. Moreover, plastic bottle imports from Belarus exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), fourfold. Poland (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.4% share.
From 2020 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Belarus totaled -14.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+78.3% per year) and Poland (+8.1% per year).
In value terms, the largest plastic bottle suppliers to Russia were China ($X), Belarus ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), together accounting for 56% of total imports.
In terms of the main suppliers, the Netherlands, with a CAGR of +76.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average plastic bottle import price amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -7.5% against the previous year. Over the period from 2020 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +7.8%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average import price increased by 26% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then reduced in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2020 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+51.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
