Comb Market Size in the Russian Federation

The Russian comb market declined to $X in 2022, shrinking by -8.3% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In general, the total consumption indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +14.3% against 2020 indices. Comb consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

Exports from the Russian Federation

In 2022, after five years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of combs and hair-slides, when their volume decreased by -19.8% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 88% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then contracted significantly in the following year.

In value terms, comb exports dropped markedly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 80% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then fell sharply in the following year.

Exports by Country

Kazakhstan (X tons), Belarus (X tons) and the UK (X tons) were the main destinations of comb exports from Russia, together comprising 82% of total exports. Ukraine, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 12%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Kyrgyzstan (with a CAGR of +39.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X), Belarus ($X) and the UK ($X) were the largest markets for comb exported from Russia worldwide, with a combined 88% share of total exports. Armenia, Ukraine and Kyrgyzstan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 8.9%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Armenia, with a CAGR of +40.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average comb export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, almost unchanged from the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 35%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Armenia (+6.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Russian Federation

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of combs and hair-slides, when their volume decreased by -5.1% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports recorded a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 112%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, comb imports declined to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed noticeable growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 134% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) was the main supplier of comb to Russia, accounting for a 91% share of total imports. Moreover, comb imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, South Korea (X tons), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled -1.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Korea (+12.3% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-0.3% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of combs and hair-slides to Russia, comprising 87% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Korea ($X), with a 9% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China amounted to +5.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Korea (+22.1% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+23.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average comb import price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -7.5% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, comb import price increased by +10.0% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+24.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
