After two years of decline, the Russian copper pipe and fitting market increased by 37% to $X in 2021. In general, the total consumption indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last nine years. Exports from the Russian Federation
In 2021, overseas shipments of copper tubes, pipes and fitting increased by 32% to X tons, rising for the fifth year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The exports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, copper pipe and fitting exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports posted a mild increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 34% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Kazakhstan (X tons), Belarus (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) were the main destinations of copper pipe and fitting exports from Russia, with a combined 81% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Kyrgyzstan and Iraq, which together accounted for a further 8.3%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Kyrgyzstan (with a CAGR of +24.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) remains the key foreign market for copper tubes, pipes and fitting exports from Russia, comprising 47% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 23% share of total exports. It was followed by Ukraine, with a 7.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Kazakhstan stood at +8.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belarus (-4.0% per year) and Ukraine (-1.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average copper pipe and fitting export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, shrinking by -12.2% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 28%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then dropped in the following year.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Kazakhstan ($X per ton) and Belarus ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) and Ukraine ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Iraq (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Russian Federation
In 2021, supplies from abroad of copper tubes, pipes and fitting was finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 36%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, copper pipe and fitting imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +33.6% against 2018 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of copper pipe and fitting to Russia, accounting for a 32% share of total imports. Moreover, copper pipe and fitting imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (X tons), threefold. Uzbekistan (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+3.2% per year) and Uzbekistan (+67.4% per year).
In value terms, China ($X), Italy ($X) and Germany ($X) constituted the largest copper pipe and fitting suppliers to Russia, together accounting for 56% of total imports. These countries were followed by Uzbekistan, Greece, Turkey, Vietnam, Ukraine, Finland and Serbia, which together accounted for a further 33%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +444.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average copper pipe and fitting import price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 25% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
