After two years of decline, the Russian market for crispbread, rusks and toasted bread increased by 0.2% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a perceptible descent. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 22%. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

Kazakhstan (X tons) was the main destination for crispbread, rusk and toasted bread exports from Russia, with a 51% share of total exports. Moreover, crispbread, rusk and toasted bread exports to Kazakhstan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Belarus (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Ukraine (X tons), with a 5.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Kazakhstan stood at +7.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belarus (+20.4% per year) and Ukraine (+18.4% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for crispbread, rusk and toasted bread exported from Russia were Kazakhstan ($X), Belarus ($X) and Ukraine ($X), together comprising 77% of total exports. Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Armenia and Tajikistan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 16%.
Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +72.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for crispbread, rusks and toasted bread amounted to $X per ton, declining by -3.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average export price increased by 7.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Tajikistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Armenia (-2.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of crispbread, rusks and toasted bread decreased by -1.7% to X tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 21%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then contracted slightly in the following year.
In value terms, crispbread, rusk and toasted bread imports contracted slightly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest crispbread, rusk and toasted bread supplier to Russia, accounting for a 40% share of total imports. Moreover, crispbread, rusk and toasted bread imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Malaysia (X tons), threefold. Lithuania (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany amounted to +15.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Malaysia (+48.3% per year) and Lithuania (-0.1% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X), Finland ($X) and Malaysia ($X) appeared to be the largest crispbread, rusk and toasted bread suppliers to Russia, together accounting for 62% of total imports.
Malaysia, with a CAGR of +42.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average import price for crispbread, rusks and toasted bread stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -1.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 7.2%.
