Dry Vegetable Market Size in the Russian Federation
The Russian dry vegetable market rose modestly to $X in 2022, surging by 2.5% against the previous year. In general, the total consumption indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +79.5% against 2015 indices. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Dry Vegetable Production in the Russian Federation
In value terms, dry vegetable production rose modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports from the Russian Federation
In 2022, after eight years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of dry vegetables, when their volume decreased by -12.8% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 128%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, dry vegetable exports fell to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 39%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.
Exports by Country
Belarus (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) were the main destinations of dry vegetable exports from Russia, with a combined 94% share of total exports. Poland and Mongolia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 2.8%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Poland (with a CAGR of +63.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for dry vegetable exported from Russia were Belarus ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Ukraine ($X), together comprising 89% of total exports. Poland and Mongolia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 2.7%.
Poland, with a CAGR of +64.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average dry vegetable export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, almost unchanged from the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 34%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mongolia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+0.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into the Russian Federation
Dry vegetable imports into Russia stood at X tons in 2022, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 9.4%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, dry vegetable imports dropped to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 16%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then fell in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest dry vegetable supplier to Russia, with a 65% share of total imports. Moreover, dry vegetable imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Egypt (X tons), with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +3.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (-4.5% per year) and Egypt (+5.3% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of dry vegetables to Russia, comprising 69% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 6.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China stood at +7.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (-1.5% per year) and Uzbekistan (+19.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average dry vegetable import price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -8.2% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 19%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then dropped in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Serbia ($X per ton), while the price for Tajikistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+13.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
