The Russian capacitor market soared to $X in 2021, increasing by 20% against the previous year. Exports from the Russian Federation
After two years of decline, overseas shipments of electrical capacitors increased by 11% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 16%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, capacitor exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a mild descent. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Belarus (X tons) was the main destination for capacitor exports from Russia, accounting for a 46% share of total exports. Moreover, capacitor exports to Belarus exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Uzbekistan (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Kazakhstan (X tons), with a 9.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Belarus amounted to -10.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Uzbekistan (-0.3% per year) and Kazakhstan (+2.3% per year).
In value terms, Belarus ($X) remains the key foreign market for electrical capacitors exports from Russia, comprising 43% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 6.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Belarus stood at -2.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: India (+13.0% per year) and Uzbekistan (+7.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average capacitor export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, capacitor export price increased by +23.5% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by 30% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belarus (+8.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Russian Federation
In 2021, the amount of electrical capacitors imported into Russia rose rapidly to X tons, growing by 12% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a slight downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 41%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, capacitor imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +52.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 59% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest capacitor supplier to Russia, with a 39% share of total imports. Moreover, capacitor imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, South Korea (X tons), fourfold. Hong Kong SAR (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 5.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +1.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Korea (+21.7% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (+34.3% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of electrical capacitors to Russia, comprising 19% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hong Kong SAR ($X), with a 7.7% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 7.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from China stood at +7.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hong Kong SAR (+32.7% per year) and Belarus (+4.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average capacitor import price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, capacitor import price increased by +91.2% against 2012 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 19%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while the price for Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+9.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
