In 2021, the Russian calculator market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, calculator exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 56%. The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Kazakhstan (X units), Belarus (X units) and Ukraine (X units) were the main destinations of calculator exports from Russia, together comprising 87% of total exports. These countries were followed by Moldova, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia, which together accounted for a further 10%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Armenia (with a CAGR of +99.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for calculator exported from Russia were Kazakhstan ($X), Belarus ($X) and Ukraine ($X), together comprising 83% of total exports. Moldova, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 14%.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China amounted to -7.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (+39.3% per year) and the Philippines (+90.4% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of electronic calculators and pocket-size data recording, reproducing and displaying machines with calculating functions to Russia, comprising 65% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Philippines ($X), with a 26% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 5.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from China stood at -9.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Philippines (+98.8% per year) and Thailand (+205.7% per year).

In 2021, the average calculator import price amounted to $X per unit, surging by 16% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 25%. Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per unit), while the price for Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
