Market Size for Fluorine, Chlorine, Bromine and Iodine in the Russian Federation

The Russian market for fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines rose significantly to $X in 2021, growing by 8.6% against the previous year. After five years of growth, overseas shipments of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines decreased by -12.4% to X tons in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 45% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine exports declined to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 88% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Ukraine (X tons), Azerbaijan (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) were the main destinations of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine exports from Russia, together comprising 96% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Ukraine (with a CAGR of +7.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.

In value terms, Ukraine ($X) remains the key foreign market for fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines exports from Russia, comprising 45% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Azerbaijan ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 9.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Ukraine amounted to -6.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Azerbaijan (-10.7% per year) and Kazakhstan (+1.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the average export price for fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 1.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Azerbaijan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belarus (+10.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into the Russian Federation

For the third year in a row, Russia recorded decline in purchases abroad of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines, which decreased by -27.5% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 119%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine imports fell modestly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a notable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 90%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Turkmenistan (X tons), India (X tons) and Chile (X tons) were the main suppliers of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine imports to Russia, with a combined 84% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by India (with a CAGR of +24.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, Turkmenistan ($X), Chile ($X) and Azerbaijan ($X) were the largest fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine suppliers to Russia, together accounting for 84% of total imports. These countries were followed by India, Germany, Kazakhstan and the UK, which together accounted for a further 12%.

India, with a CAGR of +28.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average import price for fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 35% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average import price increased by 103% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the price for India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+40.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
