Candied Fruit Market Size in the Russian Federation

The Russian candied fruit market contracted slightly to $X in 2021, dropping by -4.2% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Overall, consumption saw a dramatic curtailment. Candied fruit consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, shipments abroad of candied fruits increased by 8% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after four years of decline. Overall, exports saw strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 104% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, candied fruit exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +36.7% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 45%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

Ukraine (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons) and Israel (X tons) were the main destinations of candied fruit exports from Russia, together accounting for 69% of total exports. Belarus, the United States, Mongolia and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 22%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Germany (with a CAGR of +67.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for candied fruit exported from Russia were Ukraine ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Belarus ($X), with a combined 65% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Israel, the United States, Germany and Mongolia, which together accounted for a further 22%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Germany, with a CAGR of +68.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average candied fruit export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 8.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 26%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Mongolia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+0.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into the Russian Federation

In 2021, candied fruit imports into Russia dropped to X tons, which is down by -9.9% against 2020. Overall, imports recorded a significant contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 1,367%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, candied fruit imports rose to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a sharp shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 1,218%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Italy (X tons), China (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main suppliers of candied fruit imports to Russia, together comprising 59% of total imports. Thailand, Serbia, Poland, Switzerland, Armenia, Belarus, Romania, the Philippines, Greece and France lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 37%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Switzerland (with a CAGR of +31.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Italy ($X), China ($X) and Thailand ($X) constituted the largest candied fruit suppliers to Russia, together accounting for 54% of total imports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, Serbia, Switzerland, Armenia, Belarus, Poland, Greece, France, Romania and the Philippines, which together accounted for a further 42%.

In terms of the main suppliers, Switzerland, with a CAGR of +21.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average candied fruit import price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 16% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, candied fruit import price increased by +65.7% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 27%. The import price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while the price for the Philippines ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
