For the sixth consecutive year, the Russian test and measurement market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 1.7% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption enjoyed resilient growth. Test and measurement consumption peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, test and measurement production shrank slightly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, enjoyed a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 88% against the previous year. Test and measurement production peaked at $X in 2020, and then contracted slightly in the following year.

Exports from the Russian Federation

In 2021, exports of instruments and apparatus for measuring or checking pressure of liquids or gasses from Russia soared to X units, growing by 23% compared with 2020. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate notable growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 133%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, test and measurement exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 81%. Belarus (X units), Kazakhstan (X units) and Ukraine (X units) were the main destinations of test and measurement exports from Russia, together comprising 85% of total exports. These countries were followed by Vietnam, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, which together accounted for a further 6%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Vietnam (with a CAGR of +40.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for test and measurement exported from Russia were Kazakhstan ($X), Belarus ($X) and Vietnam ($X), together accounting for 48% of total exports.

Vietnam, with a CAGR of +42.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average test and measurement export price amounted to $X per unit, reducing by -4.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 38%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Ukraine ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belarus (+6.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, overseas purchases of instruments and apparatus for measuring or checking pressure of liquids or gasses increased by 22% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, total imports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +30.6% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 70% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, China (X units) constituted the largest test and measurement supplier to Russia, accounting for a 60% share of total imports. Moreover, test and measurement imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belarus (X units), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Italy (X units), with a 9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China amounted to +3.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (+6.1% per year) and Italy (+0.9% per year).

In value terms, the largest test and measurement suppliers to Russia were Germany ($X), China ($X) and Italy ($X), together comprising 54% of total imports.

In 2021, the average test and measurement import price amounted to $X per unit, with a decrease of -5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a pronounced slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the price for Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
