Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 111%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Kazakhstan (X tons), Belarus (X tons) and Austria (X tons) were the main destinations of exports of internal combustion engines, excluding diesel (other than for motor vehicles and aircraft) from Russia, together comprising 80% of total exports. Vietnam, Kyrgyzstan and Ukraine lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 15%.

In general, the export price showed a perceptible setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 60% against the previous year. Overall, imports recorded a perceptible expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 110%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, imports of internal combustion engines, excluding diesel (other than for motor vehicles and aircraft) soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a pronounced contraction. Over the period under review, imports of attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of internal combustion engine (excl. diesel, moto vehicle and aircraft) to Russia, accounting for a 70% share of total imports. Moreover, imports of internal combustion engines, excluding diesel (other than for motor vehicles and aircraft) from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Japan (X tons), fourfold. Thailand (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +9.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Japan (-3.2% per year) and Thailand (-3.9% per year).
In value terms, the largest internal combustion engine (excl. diesel, moto vehicle and aircraft) suppliers to Russia were Japan ($X), China ($X) and Thailand ($X), together comprising 89% of total imports.
China, with a CAGR of +2.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.
Import Prices by Country
The average import price for internal combustion engines, excluding diesel (other than for motor vehicles and aircraft) stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 7.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 34%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
