The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 170% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Belarus (X tons), Uzbekistan (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) were the main destinations of polymer ion-exchangers exports from Russia, together accounting for 80% of total exports. These countries were followed by Ukraine, China, Latvia, Azerbaijan, Lithuania and India, which together accounted for a further 17%.

In 2021, approx. X tons of ion-exchangers based on synthetic or natural polymers in primary forms were imported into Russia; growing by 2% on the year before. Over the period under review, total imports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +45.9% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 33%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, polymer ion-exchangers imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports posted resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 56%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of polymer ion-exchangers to Russia, accounting for a 60% share of total imports. Moreover, polymer ion-exchangers imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Sweden (X tons), sixfold. India (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4.9% share.
