The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 95%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2020, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

Kazakhstan (X units), Belarus (X units) and Ukraine (X units) were the main destinations of lithium-ion accumulator exports from Russia, together accounting for 78% of total exports. These countries were followed by Armenia, Germany, Mexico, Azerbaijan and the United States, which together accounted for a further 14%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Mexico (with a CAGR of +62,587.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for lithium-ion accumulator exported from Russia were Belarus ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Ukraine ($X), together accounting for 71% of total exports. Germany, the United States, Armenia, Mexico and Azerbaijan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 18%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Mexico, with a CAGR of +48,818.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average lithium-ion accumulator export price amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -41% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 53% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Ukraine ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+29.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Russian Federation

Lithium-ion accumulator imports into Russia expanded notably to X units in 2021, with an increase of 8.1% on the previous year's figure. Overall, imports posted resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 63%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, lithium-ion accumulator imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 39% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

In 2021, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of lithium-ion accumulator to Russia, with a 83% share of total imports. Moreover, lithium-ion accumulator imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Vietnam (X units), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Malaysia (X units), with a 3.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +6.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Vietnam (+31.9% per year) and Malaysia (+40.7% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of lithium-ion accumulators to Russia, comprising 71% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Malaysia ($X), with a 6% share of total imports. It was followed by Japan, with a 5.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from China stood at +25.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Malaysia (+31.7% per year) and Japan (+18.5% per year).

In 2021, the average lithium-ion accumulator import price amounted to $X per unit, rising by 22% against the previous year. In general, the import price enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average import price increased by 72% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per unit), while the price for Hong Kong SAR ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
