Magnetic Media Market Size in the Russian Federation
After four years of decline, the Russian magnetic media market increased by 12% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a mild setback. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.
Magnetic Media Production in the Russian Federation
In value terms, magnetic media production skyrocketed to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the production volume increased by 59%. Magnetic media production peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports from the Russian Federation
In 2021, approx. X units of magnetic media, not recorded, except cards with a magnetic stripe were exported from Russia; increasing by 88% on the previous year. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a dramatic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 93% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, magnetic media exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, faced a sharp decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 79% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Armenia (X units), Belarus (X units) and Azerbaijan (X units) were the main destinations of magnetic media exports from Russia, together comprising 80% of total exports. These countries were followed by Kazakhstan, Algeria, Bulgaria, India, Pakistan and the United States, which together accounted for a further 16%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Algeria (with a CAGR of +51.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Belarus ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Algeria ($X) were the largest markets for magnetic media exported from Russia worldwide, with a combined 69% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Armenia, Pakistan, Bulgaria, Azerbaijan, India and the United States, which together accounted for a further 17%.
Armenia, with a CAGR of +40.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average magnetic media export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, declining by -9.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, posted a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 1,089%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2017 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Pakistan ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Azerbaijan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Pakistan (+67.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Magnetic Media Imports
Imports into the Russian Federation
In 2021, supplies from abroad of magnetic media, not recorded, except cards with a magnetic stripe increased by 12% to X units for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, showed a dramatic slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 581% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, magnetic media imports rose significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a mild reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 103%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Japan (X units) constituted the largest magnetic media supplier to Russia, with a 80% share of total imports. Moreover, magnetic media imports from Japan exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Australia (X units), more than tenfold. France (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Japan totaled -7.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Australia (+14.2% per year) and France (-19.3% per year).
In value terms, Japan ($X) constituted the largest supplier of magnetic media, not recorded, except cards with a magnetic stripe to Russia, comprising 74% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Italy ($X), with a 9.4% share of total imports. It was followed by Australia, with a 4.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Japan stood at +4.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (-1.9% per year) and Australia (+18.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average magnetic media import price amounted to $X per unit, reducing by -4.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, posted a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 4,376% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per unit), while the price for Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+85.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
