Imports into the Russian Federation
In 2021, the amount of motor vehicle engines (spark-ignition) imported into Russia expanded rapidly to X tons, surging by 6% against the previous year. In general, imports, however, recorded a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 70%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, motor vehicle engine imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 68% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Japan (X tons), China (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) were the main suppliers of motor vehicle engine imports to Russia, with a combined 70% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Slovakia, Hungary, Germany, the UK, Poland, Romania, Spain, Belarus, the Czech Republic and France, which together accounted for a further 28%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Belarus (with a CAGR of +53.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X), Japan ($X) and South Korea ($X) constituted the largest motor vehicle engine suppliers to Russia, together accounting for 64% of total imports. These countries were followed by Hungary, Spain, Germany, Poland, the UK, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, France and Belarus, which together accounted for a further 35%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Belarus, with a CAGR of +31.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average motor vehicle engine import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 9.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the price for Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
