Exports from the Russian Federation
In 2021, exports of padlocks, locks and keys of base metal from Russia expanded markedly to X tons, surging by 11% against the year before. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 39%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, lock and key exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 37%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Belarus (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main destinations of lock and key exports from Russia, together accounting for 75% of total exports. Ukraine, Austria, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 17%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Austria (with a CAGR of +135.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for lock and key exported from Russia were Belarus ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Ukraine ($X), with a combined 73% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Poland, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and Austria, which together accounted for a further 14%.
Among the main countries of destination, Poland, with a CAGR of +61.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average lock and key export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a deep contraction. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Austria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Armenia (-4.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into the Russian Federation
In 2021, the amount of padlocks, locks and keys of base metal imported into Russia expanded markedly to X tons, with an increase of 14% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, total imports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +81.1% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 43%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, lock and key imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +98.8% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest lock and key supplier to Russia, with a 40% share of total imports. Moreover, lock and key imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (X tons), sixfold. Belarus (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 5.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China totaled +3.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+3.0% per year) and Belarus (+7.4% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of padlocks, locks and keys of base metal to Russia, comprising 28% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 9% share of total imports. It was followed by Austria, with a 5.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from China totaled +4.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-9.7% per year) and Austria (-2.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average lock and key import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 8.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 9.5% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lithuania (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
