The average peat export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 15%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Finland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+11.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Russian Federation
Peat imports into Russia dropped sharply to X tons in 2021, which is down by -21.9% on 2020. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 191%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, peat imports dropped remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 114%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then declined remarkably in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Belarus (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of peat to Russia, accounting for a 73% share of total imports. Moreover, peat imports from Belarus exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Netherlands (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Estonia (X tons), with a 5.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Belarus stood at +70.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+100.2% per year) and Estonia (+5.5% per year).
In value terms, Belarus ($X) constituted the largest supplier of peat to Russia, comprising 49% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Netherlands ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Lithuania, with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Belarus amounted to +69.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+72.6% per year) and Lithuania (+3.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average peat import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 3.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 13%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Armenia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
