In 2022, after four years of growth, there was decline in the Russian pimenta pepper market, when its value decreased by -4.2% to $X. In value terms, pimenta pepper exports contracted modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 53% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then shrank modestly in the following year.
Exports by Country
Belarus (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) were the main destinations of pimenta pepper exports from Russia, together comprising 92% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Ukraine (with a CAGR of +112.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X), Ukraine ($X) and Belarus ($X) constituted the largest markets for pimenta pepper exported from Russia worldwide, together accounting for 90% of total exports.
Among the main countries of destination, Ukraine, with a CAGR of +78.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average pimenta pepper export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 4.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average export price increased by 12%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkmenistan (+1.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into the Russian Federation
In 2022, after four years of growth, there was decline in supplies from abroad of pimenta pepper, when their volume decreased by -1.7% to X tons. Overall, total imports indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +24.9% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then fell slightly in the following year.
In value terms, pimenta pepper imports shrank to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +36.8% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 40%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest pimenta pepper supplier to Russia, with a 58% share of total imports. Moreover, pimenta pepper imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Uzbekistan (X tons), fourfold. Spain (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled +8.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Uzbekistan (+7.2% per year) and Spain (+9.8% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of pimenta pepper to Russia, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Spain ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 16% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China stood at +6.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+16.9% per year) and Uzbekistan (+9.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average pimenta pepper import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by -3.7% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 14% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined modestly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while the price for India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+10.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
