Exports from the Russian Federation
After four years of decline, shipments abroad of photographic paper, paperboard and textiles increased by 2.7% to X square meters in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a pronounced slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 28%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X square meters. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, photographic paper exports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 77%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Belarus (X square meters) was the main destination for photographic paper exports from Russia, with a 69% share of total exports. Moreover, photographic paper exports to Belarus exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Ukraine (X square meters), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Kazakhstan (X square meters), with a 4.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Belarus stood at -3.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ukraine (+21.7% per year) and Kazakhstan (+2.2% per year).
In value terms, Belarus ($X) remains the key foreign market for photographic paper, paperboard and textiles exports from Russia, comprising 48% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ukraine ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by France, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Belarus was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ukraine (+18.8% per year) and France (+26.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average photographic paper export price stood at $X per square meter in 2021, growing by 8.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, photographic paper export price increased by +6.2% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 106% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per square meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per square meter), while the average price for exports to Belarus ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kazakhstan (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Russian Federation
Photographic paper imports into Russia soared to X square meters in 2021, rising by 16% on the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a deep slump. Imports peaked at X square meters in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country
In 2021, the Netherlands (X square meters) constituted the largest photographic paper supplier to Russia, accounting for a 74% share of total imports. Moreover, photographic paper imports from the Netherlands exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X square meters), sixfold. Belarus (X square meters) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from the Netherlands stood at -8.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+16.7% per year) and Belarus (+21.7% per year).
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constituted the largest supplier of photographic paper, paperboard and textiles to Russia, comprising 83% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 7.2% share of total imports. It was followed by the United States, with a 4.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the Netherlands stood at -7.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+19.8% per year) and the United States (+21.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average photographic paper import price amounted to $X per square meter, flattening at the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 18% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per square meter. From 2019 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per square meter), while the price for Belarus ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+27.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
