In 2022, the Russian potato chips market decreased by -5.2% to $X, falling for the second consecutive year after four years of growth. Over the period under review, consumption saw a slight decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 102% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
Exports by Country
Kazakhstan (X tons), Belarus (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons) were the main destinations of potato chips exports from Russia, together comprising 77% of total exports. Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, Armenia, Tajikistan and Ukraine lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +39.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Belarus ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Uzbekistan ($X) constituted the largest markets for potato chips exported from Russia worldwide, together accounting for 76% of total exports.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +31.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average potato chips export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, almost unchanged from the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a abrupt slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average export price increased by 11%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Georgia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ukraine (+3.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of potato chips decreased by -10.7% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a noticeable slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 27% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, potato chips imports reduced to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 34%. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

Belarus (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main suppliers of potato chips imports to Russia.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Belarus (with a CAGR of +28.7%).
In value terms, Belarus ($X) and Poland ($X) constituted the largest potato chips suppliers to Russia.
Belarus, with a CAGR of +38.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review.

The average potato chips import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -2.1% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%.
