Rapeseed Oil Market Size in the Russian Federation

In 2022, the Russian rapeseed oil market increased by 151% to $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, consumption saw a prominent expansion. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, rapeseed oil exports reduced sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 69% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then contracted notably in the following year.

China (X tons), Norway (X tons) and Latvia (X tons) were the main destinations of rapeseed oil exports from Russia, with a combined 78% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for China (with a CAGR of +136.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then fell in the following year.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to China ($X per ton) and the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Latvia ($X per ton) and Lithuania ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (-0.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of rapeseed oil decreased by -8.5% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 11,452% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, rapeseed oil imports shrank dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 7,288% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

In 2022, Belarus (X tons) was the main supplier of rapeseed oil to Russia, accounting for a 99% share of total imports. It was followed by Finland (X tons), with a 0.2% share of total imports.
