In 2021, purchases abroad of rice bran was finally on the rise to reach X tons after four years of decline. Overall, imports, however, showed a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 72% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, rice bran imports totaled $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 50% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Estonia (X tons), Finland (X tons) and Sweden (X tons) were the main suppliers of rice bran imports to Russia, together accounting for 96% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Sweden (with a CAGR of +124.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, the largest rice bran suppliers to Russia were Sweden ($X), Finland ($X) and Estonia ($X), with a combined 97% share of total imports.
Sweden, with a CAGR of +109.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average rice bran import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 9.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, rice bran import price increased by +12.5% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average import price increased by 48%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while the price for Estonia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+77.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
