Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, rusks and toasted bread exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Kazakhstan (X tons) was the main destination for rusks and toasted bread exports from Russia, accounting for a 51% share of total exports. Moreover, rusks and toasted bread exports to Kazakhstan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Belarus (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Ukraine (X tons), with a 6.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Kazakhstan amounted to +7.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belarus (+21.4% per year) and Ukraine (+60.4% per year).
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) remains the key foreign market for rusks, toasted bread and similar toasted products exports from Russia, comprising 49% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Ukraine, with an 8.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Kazakhstan stood at -1.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belarus (+12.0% per year) and Ukraine (+55.9% per year).

In 2021, the average rusks and toasted bread export price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 9.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a abrupt slump. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Tajikistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into the Russian Federation
For the third consecutive year, Russia recorded growth in supplies from abroad of rusks, toasted bread and similar toasted products, which increased by 4.1% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +64.8% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, rusks and toasted bread imports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 29%. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Germany (X tons), Lithuania (X tons) and the UK (X tons) were the main suppliers of rusks and toasted bread imports to Russia, with a combined 61% share of total imports. Finland, Malaysia, China, South Korea, Belarus, Poland, Thailand and India lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 37%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Malaysia (with a CAGR of +48.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest rusks and toasted bread suppliers to Russia were Finland ($X), Germany ($X) and the UK ($X), with a combined 58% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Malaysia, Lithuania, South Korea, China, Poland, Thailand, Belarus and India, which together accounted for a further 37%.
Malaysia, with a CAGR of +38.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average rusks and toasted bread import price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 4.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 7.1%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Finland ($X per ton), while the price for Lithuania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
