Exports from the Russian Federation
In 2019, the amount of safety fuses, detonating fuses and electric detonators exported from Russia skyrocketed to X tons, rising by 24% against 2018 figures. In general, exports enjoyed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 133% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2019, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, fuse and detonator exports rose to $X in 2019. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 236% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2019, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Kazakhstan (X tons) was the main destination for fuse and detonator exports from Russia, accounting for a 57% share of total exports. Moreover, fuse and detonator exports to Kazakhstan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Uzbekistan (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Mongolia (X tons), with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2019, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Kazakhstan totaled +10.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Uzbekistan (+19.3% per year) and Mongolia (+15.9% per year).
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X), Uzbekistan ($X) and Mongolia ($X) constituted the largest markets for fuse and detonator exported from Russia worldwide, with a combined 62% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Tajikistan, Myanmar, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia, which together accounted for a further 19%.
Among the main countries of destination, Myanmar, with a CAGR of +133.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2019, the average fuse and detonator export price amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -15.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the average export price increased by 82% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2019, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Myanmar ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Uzbekistan (+15.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Russian Federation
In 2019, fuse and detonator imports into Russia surged to X tons, jumping by 36% against 2018. In general, imports showed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 215% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2019, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, fuse and detonator imports skyrocketed to $X in 2019. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a mild descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 146%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2019, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2019, Spain (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of fuse and detonator to Russia, with a 53% share of total imports. Moreover, fuse and detonator imports from Spain exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Sweden (X tons), threefold. Italy (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2019, the average annual growth rate of volume from Spain totaled +10.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Sweden (+9.2% per year) and Italy (+4.9% per year).
In value terms, Spain ($X) constituted the largest supplier of safety fuses, detonating fuses and electric detonators to Russia, comprising 43% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Sweden ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2019, the average annual growth rate of value from Spain stood at +7.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Sweden (+8.3% per year) and Italy (+5.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average fuse and detonator import price stood at $X per ton in 2019, dropping by -4.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 15%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2019, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2019, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($X per ton), while the price for Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+0.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
