In value terms, preserved salmon exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 44%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Belarus (X tons) was the main destination for preserved salmon exports from Russia, with a 51% share of total exports. Moreover, preserved salmon exports to Belarus exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, China (X tons), fivefold. The United States (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 9.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Belarus totaled +49.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: China (+91.7% per year) and the United States (+38.7% per year).
In value terms, Belarus ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for salmon (prepared or preserved) exports from Russia, comprising 36% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Canada ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Armenia, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Belarus totaled +34.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Canada (+59.4% per year) and Armenia (+62.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average preserved salmon export price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -40.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 34% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Armenia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Armenia (+32.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Russian Federation
In 2021, imports of salmon (prepared or preserved) into Russia skyrocketed to X tons, picking up by 5,404% on 2020. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable setback. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, preserved salmon imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Latvia (X tons) was the main supplier of preserved salmon to Russia, with a 99% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus (X kg), with a 1.5% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Latvia totaled +1.6%.
In value terms, Latvia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of salmon (prepared or preserved) to Russia, comprising 97% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 2.8% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Latvia totaled +8.8%.
Import Prices by Country
The average preserved salmon import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -39% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a moderate increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the average import price increased by 121% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
