Salt Market Size in the Russian Federation

In value terms, salt exports amounted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 31%. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Ukraine (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons) and Latvia (X tons) were the main destinations of salt exports from Russia, together accounting for 85% of total exports. Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, China, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 11%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for China (with a CAGR of +90.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Ukraine ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and China ($X) constituted the largest markets for salt exported from Russia worldwide, together accounting for 70% of total exports.
China, with a CAGR of +99.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average salt export price amounted to $X per ton, remaining constant against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by 25% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mongolia (+9.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Russian Federation
In 2022, the amount of salt and pure sodium chloride imported into Russia dropped slightly to X tons, with a decrease of -4.8% on the previous year. Over the period under review, imports recorded a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 24%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, salt imports fell slightly to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 30% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Kazakhstan (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of salt to Russia, accounting for a 62% share of total imports. Moreover, salt imports from Kazakhstan exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belarus (X tons), twofold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Kazakhstan amounted to +79.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (+4.0% per year) and Turkey (+31.6% per year).
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X), Belarus ($X) and Turkey ($X) constituted the largest salt suppliers to Russia, together comprising 92% of total imports.
In terms of the main suppliers, Kazakhstan, with a CAGR of +69.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average salt import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 3.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a slight contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while the price for Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ukraine (+20.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
