Seat Market Size in the Russian Federation

After two years of decline, the Russian seat market increased by 31% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a perceptible contraction. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Seat Production in the Russian Federation

In value terms, seat production contracted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, recorded a mild downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the production volume increased by 54% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from the Russian Federation

Seat exports from Russia skyrocketed to X tons in 2021, with an increase of 40% against the year before. Overall, exports posted a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, seat exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate strong growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Kazakhstan (X tons), Belarus (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) were the main destinations of seat exports from Russia, with a combined 80% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Germany, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Poland, Lithuania and Italy, which together accounted for a further 22%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Kyrgyzstan (with a CAGR of +99.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X), Belarus ($X) and Germany ($X) constituted the largest markets for seat exported from Russia worldwide, with a combined 67% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Poland, Lithuania and Italy, which together accounted for a further 14%.

Among the main countries of destination, Kyrgyzstan, with a CAGR of +68.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the average seat export price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 15% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a slight downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the average export price increased by 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+9.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Russian Federation

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of seats, when their volume increased by 20% to X tons. In general, imports, however, showed a noticeable downturn. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, seat imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible slump. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of seat to Russia, accounting for a 70% share of total imports. Moreover, seat imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belarus (X tons), ninefold. The Czech Republic (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 5.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +3.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (+28.2% per year) and the Czech Republic (+17.8% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of seats to Russia, comprising 41% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Korea ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from China totaled +2.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Korea (-3.0% per year) and Belarus (+10.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average seat import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 17% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, seat import price increased by +25.4% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 57%. The import price peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while the price for the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+5.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
