The Russian pyrotechnic articles market expanded notably to $X in 2021, increasing by 8.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a perceptible setback. In 2019, overseas shipments of signalling flares, rain rockets, fog signals and other pyrotechnic articles increased by 370% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after three years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The exports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2019, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, pyrotechnic articles exports soared to $X in 2019. Overall, exports saw buoyant growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Kazakhstan (X tons) was the main destination for pyrotechnic articles exports from Russia, accounting for a 80% share of total exports. Moreover, pyrotechnic articles exports to Kazakhstan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Belarus (X tons), eightfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Moldova (X tons), with a 5.5% share.

From 2012 to 2019, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Kazakhstan stood at -1.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belarus (+8.8% per year) and Moldova (+5.2% per year).

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for signalling flares, rain rockets, fog signals and other pyrotechnic articles exports from Russia, comprising 66% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Moldova ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2019, the average annual growth rate of value to Kazakhstan stood at +5.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Moldova (+15.4% per year) and Belarus (+6.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2019, the average pyrotechnic articles export price amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 27% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 34%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2019, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2019, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Moldova ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into the Russian Federation

Pyrotechnic articles imports into Russia plummeted to X tons in 2019, waning by -17% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 768%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2019, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, pyrotechnic articles imports shrank dramatically to $X in 2019. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 437% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2019, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2019, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of pyrotechnic articles to Russia, with a 80% share of total imports. Moreover, pyrotechnic articles imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), sixfold. Belarus (X kg) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 2.7% share.

From 2012 to 2019, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +227.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+11.6% per year) and Belarus (-51.1% per year).

In value terms, China ($X), Germany ($X) and Belarus ($X) constituted the largest pyrotechnic articles suppliers to Russia, together comprising 85% of total imports.

In terms of the main suppliers, China, with a CAGR of +145.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

Import Prices by Country

In 2019, the average pyrotechnic articles import price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -28.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 98% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2019, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2019, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
