The exports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates exports dropped rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a abrupt slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 125%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Belarus (X tons) was the main destination for sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates exports from Russia, accounting for a 98% share of total exports. It was followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), with a 2.2% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Belarus stood at +33.9%.
In value terms, Belarus ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for sulphides, polysulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates exports from Russia, comprising 91% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 1.8% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Belarus totaled +48.5%.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates export price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a moderate increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 99% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Kazakhstan amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Myanmar (+81.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Sulphides, Polysulphides, Dithionites And Sulphoxylates
Imports into the Russian Federation
In 2022, supplies from abroad of sulphides, polysulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, total imports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -21.9% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates imports declined to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a mild setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates to Russia, with a 88% share of total imports. Moreover, sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Madagascar (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Italy (X tons), with a 3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China amounted to +4.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Madagascar (0.0% per year) and Italy (+15.5% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sulphides, polysulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates to Russia, comprising 85% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Madagascar ($X), with a 6.4% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with a 6.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled +4.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Madagascar (0.0% per year) and Italy (+8.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates import price amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -9.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for Madagascar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (-0.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
