Organic Pigments Market Size in the Russian Federation

The Russian organic pigments market rose markedly to $X in 2021, picking up by 7.2% against the previous year. Overall, the total consumption indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last nine years. In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of synthetic organic coloring matter and pigments, when their volume decreased by -10.6% to X tons. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +50.2% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 40%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, organic pigments exports amounted to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 14%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Belarus (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) were the main destinations of organic pigments exports from Russia, with a combined 71% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Uzbekistan, the Netherlands, Denmark, the Czech Republic, Germany, the United States, Belgium and Italy, which together accounted for a further 24%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +250.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Belarus ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Ukraine ($X) were the largest markets for organic pigments exported from Russia worldwide, together accounting for 66% of total exports. These countries were followed by Uzbekistan, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, the United States, Belgium and Italy, which together accounted for a further 28%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, the Netherlands, with a CAGR of +197.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average organic pigments export price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a perceptible contraction. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+26.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Organic pigments imports into Russia expanded notably to X tons in 2021, increasing by 11% against 2020 figures. In general, imports, however, showed a mild downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 15%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, organic pigments imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +84.5% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 18%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

India (X tons), Germany (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of organic pigments imports to Russia, together accounting for 57% of total imports. These countries were followed by Italy, Turkey, Spain, Belarus, Denmark, the UK, Belgium, Finland, South Korea and the United States, which together accounted for a further 32%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the UK (with a CAGR of +17.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, India ($X), China ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the largest organic pigments suppliers to Russia, with a combined 53% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Italy, the United States, Turkey, Belgium, Spain, the UK, Denmark, Belarus, South Korea and Finland, which together accounted for a further 30%.

Turkey, with a CAGR of +11.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average organic pigments import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 3.9% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.9%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the average import price increased by 19%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
