Wadding Market Size in the Russian Federation
The Russian wadding market contracted to $X in 2021, reducing by -11% against the previous year. In general, consumption recorded a slight contraction. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.
Wadding Production in the Russian Federation
In value terms, wadding production soared to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, the total production indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production decreased by -17.5% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the production volume increased by 34%. Wadding production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from the Russian Federation
In 2021, overseas shipments of wadding increased by 8.4% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +13.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 31%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, wadding exports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. In general, total exports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -2.0% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Belarus (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) were the main destinations of wadding exports from Russia, together accounting for 62% of total exports. Uzbekistan, Serbia, Poland, South Korea, Turkey, Romania and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 29%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Serbia (with a CAGR of +57.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for wadding exported from Russia were Kazakhstan ($X), Belarus ($X) and Uzbekistan ($X), together comprising 59% of total exports. Ukraine, Poland, Serbia, Turkey, South Korea, Romania and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 33%.
Among the main countries of destination, Serbia, with a CAGR of +56.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average wadding export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, approximately mirroring the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 18%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Uzbekistan (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Wadding Imports
Imports into the Russian Federation
In 2021, supplies from abroad of wadding decreased by -4.3% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +49.4% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 33%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then shrank modestly in the following year.
In value terms, wadding imports contracted rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 24%. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Uzbekistan (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of wadding to Russia, accounting for a 57% share of total imports. Moreover, wadding imports from Uzbekistan exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belarus (X tons), sevenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Hungary (X tons), with a 7.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Uzbekistan totaled +18.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (+57.5% per year) and Hungary (+2.0% per year).
In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X), South Korea ($X) and Lithuania ($X) appeared to be the largest wadding suppliers to Russia, together comprising 52% of total imports. These countries were followed by Hungary, Japan, Belarus, Poland, Estonia, Latvia, China, Turkey, Italy and the UK, which together accounted for a further 38%.
Latvia, with a CAGR of +216.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average wadding import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -11.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while the price for Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+9.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
