Belarus (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) were the main destinations of winding wire exports from Russia, together comprising 94% of total exports. These countries were followed by the United States, which accounted for a further 3.7%.

After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of winding wire for electrical purposes increased by 1.9% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 96%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, winding wire imports fell markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 66%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Belarus (X tons) constituted the largest winding wire supplier to Russia, with a 71% share of total imports. Moreover, winding wire imports from Belarus exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), sixfold. Moldova (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Belarus stood at +10.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+12.1% per year) and Moldova (-11.2% per year).
In value terms, Belarus ($X), Moldova ($X) and China ($X) appeared to be the largest winding wire suppliers to Russia, together comprising 76% of total imports.
Among the main suppliers, China, with a CAGR of +21.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average winding wire import price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -18.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a perceptible slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 55%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
