In 2021, the Russian wood charcoal market increased by 106% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a perceptible shrinkage. In 2021, overseas shipments of wood charcoal decreased by -15.9% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after six years of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 82%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, wood charcoal exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 79% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Turkey (X tons), Poland (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main destinations of wood charcoal exports from Russia, with a combined 42% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Belarus, China, Latvia, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Greece, Sweden, Belgium, Estonia and Finland, which together accounted for a further 49%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Sweden (with a CAGR of +592.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Turkey ($X), France ($X) and Belarus ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for wood charcoal exported from Russia worldwide, together comprising 42% of total exports. These countries were followed by Poland, Latvia, Sweden, Lithuania, Greece, Kazakhstan, Belgium, China, Estonia and Finland, which together accounted for a further 49%.
Sweden, with a CAGR of +592.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average wood charcoal export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a pronounced reduction. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkey (+7.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Russian Federation
In 2021, the amount of wood charcoal imported into Russia soared to X tons, increasing by 19% on the previous year's figure. Overall, imports showed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 163%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Imports by Country
In 2021, Indonesia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of wood charcoal to Russia, with a 77% share of total imports. Moreover, wood charcoal imports from Indonesia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belarus (X tons), ninefold. Poland (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Indonesia amounted to +31.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (+35.7% per year) and Poland (+32.4% per year).
In value terms, Indonesia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of wood charcoal to Russia, comprising 80% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 6.5% share of total imports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 4.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Indonesia amounted to +31.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+29.5% per year) and Turkey (+53.4% per year).

The average wood charcoal import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 19% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a perceptible setback. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while the price for Armenia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
